Astrology Transits: There Are Camps Dividing

Hello friends and readers, how is August going so far? I have felt the pressure mounting for the upcoming eclipse, but I have had a lot of transits from Saturn to my natal chart, and recently Chiron went retrograde, as a highlight to my Chiron return. This is some sufferin' succotash for me-- to say the least. This has not been a fun period of time for me, personally, but don’t let me rain on your parade, some of you are having great, powerful, and beautiful breakthroughs, and this is truly awesome to see.
Just to note, this is why understanding your chart and makeup can help you decode some of the “pop astrology” out there. Sometimes when I tell people I’m an astrologer, they treat me like I’m a flat-earther and I guess it’s because they think that I’m the same as some of this AI generated content going through Insta and Tik-Tok. Real astrology, the kind you can use, is more specific, nuanced, and- dare I say– for the wild at heart.
Jupiter is in Leo and this can be a boon for many, in terms of being seen, being heard, being admired, or having the wherewithal to lead the pride. And PRIDE is definitely part of Leo season. Jupiter, in my case, is transiting my natal Saturn, and Saturn is transiting retrograde over my natal Sun.
Saturn hits are not usually fun, and these (for sure) have not been for me. There is nothing really that wrong going on, I have food, shelter, clothing, etc. But I also have cancer, and have been living under existential threat with very little control over my life. There’s a both/and quality, and there have been many frustrations and disappointments to deal with. Saturn usually demonstrates a need for boundaries, direction, and commitment to our own growth. Unfortunately my current Saturn work is happening tandem to my wounding (Chiron) so I am coming up with triggers to parse through at the same time as needing to parse through boundaries. Fun times.
We are ALL heading towards a total solar eclipse in Leo on August 12th. Eclipses are the creme de la creme of astrology events and some would say that it is the peak of what our entire practice is centred around. We have learned– or been domesticated out of how these events affect us, yet many of us feel these energies anyway, subtly, as the energy mounts.
Those of us with points or planets near 20 degrees of a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) will feel this strongest, but really we all will be affected by this, and it is definitely a time cycle marker. Looking back at the last few years, I can see how eras are created within the confines of an eclipse series. These cycles are usually around 18 months long, yet you can see how things were changing through their magic retrospectively, easier than while looking forward.
For me I can definitely feel the fixed quality of this. I feel relegated to home, not well, bald, out of shape, with nothing to look forward to. Stuck. Nowhere to go. Fixed squares usually make me feel this way, but so does a lot of fixed energy.
Leo is hot, so many people are feeling this on the map with the forest fires and hot smoke just sitting there in a haze, keeping in humidity in major cities. It’s an ominous thing to contend with. But something we are getting more and more of this summer, as well as some crazy world political stuff.
A very famous astrologer is in hot water right now, for his own behaviour on a podcast. He has exposed himself publicly and now must parse through the consequences. But overnight he has gone from a top pick to social pariah, and the astrology world is reeling. There are camps dividing, and all these people getting concerned about cancellation, wokeness, etc. But we are in the Age of Aquarius. If you have a public platform, and make money off that platform, it’s true that your missteps will cost you. This isn’t new and it isn’t woke. It’s called consequences for your actions. Side note: very Saturnian!
We are dealing with all kinds of perspectives and ideas these days and thankfully a few days ago, Venus moved into her home sign of Libra to try to make us more joyful, or at least bring fairness and balance to the forefront of our experience. As of yesterday, Mercury joined the team of Leo, so we are more stubborn and dug in, and fiery right now. Mars is about to enter Cancer, where our anger, desire, and inner fire gets a little more subconscious and emotional. Things are getting interesting out there. Here are the timestamps
August 9 Mercury ingresses into Leo
August10 Mars trine North Node @ 29 °
August 10 Libra Venus opposite Aries Neptune @ 04°
August 11 Mars ingresses into Cancer
August 12 Solar Eclipse in Leo @ 20°, Mars sextile Chiron
August 17 Cancer Mars square Aries Neptune 03°
August 17th Libra Venus sextile Leo Jupiter @ 10°
Sunday August 9th had this Mercury ingress into Leo so we are all feeling a bit more headstrong, righteous, and fiery by now, I certainly am. But since the minute this ingress happened, we all came up on an opposition with Pluto, and that energy will have us focused on our personal expression/ needs/ wants, and the needs of our social life, community, and humanity at large. Humanity at large is going to win out on this one, and this story will be woven over the next few days. Remember this theme until at least after the first eclipse on the 12th because it’s definitely a player on the landscape, and you are personally responsible for what you say, do, and how you say it.
Monday August 10th, Interestingly enough, there is a kite aspect today that is directed by this selfsame Mercury as its axis, involving a grand air trine that has formed with Venus in Libra, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius. So this opposition that I just mentioned got some big downloads, intellectually and through the field to boost how we work with this astrology. Air trines make realizations, epiphanies, and big mental work come quick; keep your attention ready for what comes in these next few days coming up to the eclipse, and take your thoughts seriously (but not too seriously– see my next paragraph.) Sometimes the thought comes quicker than your cognitive understanding, especially with 2 outer planets involved. But your experiences will be Venusian, and therefore something like:
I hate this.
I love this.
Something is wrong.
Something is finally right.
I love you.
I hate you.
I just want peace/ harmony/ something else.
What makes this all so much more interesting is that Venus made its own opposition to Neptune today, which confuses, obscures, reveals, and scams. Don’t make any big money purchases or decisions today, and don’t bet the farm on anything. Venus rules money and relationships, and relationships are challenged and challenging.
Also today, Mars hit the very end of Gemini, the anaretic degree where it sextiles the South Node in Leo, and trines the North Node. So Mars is going out of Gemini on bang, with a message to you about you and your future karma. Wherever you are heading with things, you will get a final push and opportunity to explore what you desire and what your inner fire is wanting. This won’t be subtle, but it likely will be experienced intellectually. There was strong air today overall, and lots of things to keep us on our toes. This is what prevented me from publishing on time. Remember as happy as Venus is in Libra, it’s not decisive here. If you are feeling decisive, take a few days on that decision, just to be sure it’s not Neptune deciding for you.
On Tuesday August 11th, Mars enters Cancer. Mars in Cancer is emotional, a little defensive, but also: fierce. This is mama bear energy- it can be highly nurturing and highly creative. I find that this energy can easily be underestimated, and also vilified, but it is powerful nurturing, “mum lifts up a car with one arm to save a kid” kind of energy. Mars in Cancer can be over reactive, or passive aggressive but that has more to do with the person and what they are processing- any expression can work in shadow or aligned power, and we will see both during this transit, changing with the Moons’ transit. Because Mars can put someone in touch with their emotional anger, that’s why we say this. But we don’t always know how much someone angers us until we feel it. Mars in Cancer is a good way to feel it. And while this is happening, Leo Mercury perfects its opposition to Aquarius Pluto. We might have to contend with our own behaviour / words/ moods– but we are still responsible for how that lands on social media, with friends, in public. And there are 3 planets: Jupiter, Moon, Mercury; all in Leo, making a trine to Neptune. So Neptune will be doing its best to mess with us to make sure we are paying attention.
So what does that mean? In the next week but potentially through the next 2, we should really, really try to be the bigger person. To own our own behaviour and be the best possible version of ourselves. If we know we are getting away with something, know that you might get caught holding the bag. I’ve caught a couple people recently, pulling their old tricks. I usually let it go, but right now– due to Saturn– I’m finding it harder to stay quiet and let things go. Hence my own realization about boundaries, my anger, and why I feel like I feel. But in that case, I have to monitor my emotional heft. Am I being reasonable for this particular moment? Potentially not.
I mention this, because this astrology is parsing out MAJOR CHANGES. Kites are no joke, Pluto and Neptune are no joke. Eclipses are definitely no joke. If you are pissed off and hurt, likely you haven’t expressed your boundaries, or taken responsibility for what’s hurting you. This is definitely the time to become aware of this, on Tuesday 11th, or to start considering it. Also, if someone told you something was upsetting, hurtful, or not cool: believe them. Avoiding accountability will not be rewarded during this astrology. Leo is about being SEEN. This energy is pulling things out to be dealt with publicly.
Wednesday August 12th is the eclipse. I’ll never understand what makes people “party” on eclipses since this is the closest thing to touching infinity that mostly-- spiritually-- demands rest, contemplation, and the idea of timelessness and connection: but that’s me. However you decide to work with energy, more receptivity is called for here. Go slower, sleepier, do less, save a lot of it for another day.
The kite with Pluto and the grand air trine are still in play, with Jupiter conjunct Mercury. This is a South Node total Solar Eclipse and therefore there is this idea of a purging of patterns that is meant to get us to a new future. When the Moon eclipses the Sun, it turns the world on its head and brings the subconscious to the forefront, it literally scrubs something clean, but we’re talking about Leo here. Leo is big diva energy; energy that wants to lead, be witnessed, and is synonymous with drama. This is some really public work. Also with Mercury and Jupiter opposite Pluto, again big public stuff, that’s designed to help and transform the collective, but trust that we’ll see lots of things in the news about this type of thing.
It seems to me, intuitively, that we are being asked to be more conscious of the effects of our actions on the collective. Like if we always blame our pathology/ partner/ every time we are late, or don’t feel like going out. Sure that could be true- but how does that work collectively? We are raising our community to be full of excuses now. There is always an excuse not to. There are many excuses available and in the post-COVID era, perhaps we over-corrected? On the same vein, I've noticed so many times that I have internalized capitalism, I want to be productive but I'm in treatment with no energy. This is real, especially in my family, but/ and / also, I have made excuses to get out of things, and I know it.
If we drop our commitments and don’t fulfill- even just at home– how does that help the collective? How do we know which is more important? What does that teach our kids, colleagues, our community? If we never forgive, if we join online bandwagons, if we don’t patronize artists/ farmers/ creators, how does that work in the collective? If we consistently do the easier thing, or support politicians that are still building pipelines because they are “better” than the other politicians then– well I guess we’ll always have a crappy politician, but never a good one.
If we promise something and take it back- we lack integrity. If we only follow our own algorithms, if we don’t learn from the other side- how does this help us? And honestly- I don’t really care about the politician part as I’m Astro-Anarchist and I don’t really believe in national brand politics at all. If anything, I’m trying to say that our collective lack of integrity with each other on the small scale is what is eroding everything on the larger one, and that comes with normalizing bad behaviour. It might be nice to have a diagnosis and a prescription, but that doesn’t mean your integrity is less important than anyone else's. I can say that: I literally have cancer.
I’m saying this because I strongly believe that’s the message of the upcoming eclipses. They are not shy, timid eclipses even by eclipse standards. They come with lessons about who we think we are, roles we identify with (Parent/ child/ worker/ mentor etc.) and how that plays in the community.
Furthermore, we call this a threshold because eclipse portals last 2 weeks. They are life on volume 11/ fast forward/ so much happens in that period of time. Don’t necessarily expect a big earth shattering change, but also don’t NOT expect it. Eclipses are when kings are born and when they die. Most of us aren’t kings, so we’ll be marked safe, but the theme here is the collective, and guess what: there’s no politician coming to save us. If you don’t know that now, you’re not paying attention.
It starts with you and me fam, our little lives, and how we live them. The honesty, the fairness you give yourself, and how that translates into the humanity we are building. They are saying Gen Z is showing cognitive decline from previous generations, for the first time in a long time. I don’t give tons of credence to these kind of studies, but I have been worried about the younger generations for at least a decade. This is absolutely not a surprise to me, and it aligns from my experience and the experience of my many friends in the teaching realm.
We forgot along the way that our job was to prepare these humans to LEAD. We ourselves are all supposed to be LEADERS in some form or other. And our phones, computers, TVs, games, and substances helped us forget about this. I’m still forgetting it! I scroll way too often!
Cancer Mars’s sextile to Chiron in Taurus on eclipse day is going to give us lots to chew on. Sextiles present a choice, and this emotional and protective Mars, may offer a way to heal or process wounding. But that will be secondary to the eclipse itself. What’s important to this sextile is that there is a light/ less heavy choice that may present itself in the form of our desire and reaction to wounding. Choose the path of non-doing as much as you can on August 12th.
By Monday, August 17th, we’ll have seen some big changes, either at home or on the world stage, underway. I find eclipses can be like harbingers, like the part of the monologue when we say: I knew I’d never allow that again, or something of the like. But on this particular Monday, Cancer Mars will square Aries Neptune, which is something that can catch us in the wrong. Neptune likes to trick us, and Mars/anger/desire has an err of certainty it has never earned. Especially with the Moon in Scorpio that day (ruling Mars) there is an extra focus and certainty (or obsession) that could come into play– the thing about Neptune is you could-- easily-- be wrong. Have you ever had someone do something hurtful over and over again, but then one time, finally, you lose your cool, and YOU have to apologize because you were legitimately wrong in this one case? Remember this for the 17th as you parse through the changes.
Also this same day there is a sextile between Venus and Jupiter. With Venus at home in Libra, and Jupiter in Leo, this could be an amazing opportunity, boon, or synchronicity for you. Your job is to ACT on it. This is a confusing thing- don’t act on Mars square Neptune, but do act on Venus sextile Jupiter? How do you know which one to act on?
If you feel righteous, angry, vengeful, disempowered, at the end of your rope- don’t act on that, give it time if you can, or hold back if you must act. Try to see through the fog of annoyance/ anger/ righteousness.
If you feel led, called, a bit uncomfortable, but also something feels like synchronicity, unexpected, connected, or potentially an opportunity that is not in the above energetic footprint; if it feels aligned through possibility– act on that.
There is so much more coming during this month, and ultimately we will all learn something about ourselves. Eclipse blessings to all!
