Astrology Transits for this New Year: We Are Now In A Wheel of Fortune Year

Hello my friends, I come to you live from this new year, and a break from writing about astrology. 2025 was a tough year for me, and many folk, and by the end of it, I was completely exhausted. Exhausted by my body since chronic pain is now a new reality, exhausted by the liminal energy of the year, and exhausted by my attempts to wriggle out of my present situation. I was definitely in extreme Hanged Man energy. The more you resist, the more trapped you become. That being said; 2025 was a Hermit year, and it couldn’t have been more on-the-nose; for how it felt for me.
What an energy shift it’s been since just a couple of weeks ago!
We are now in a Wheel of Fortune year, which is expansive, and deals with movement. I’m sure you all feel it already? This year is going to be all about culmination, manifestation, change, and rebirth. We are going to be asked to birth things– and let go of things. We are going to be asked to act and do. No more sheltering in place.
This astrology for the beginning of the year really knocked me on my ass, pardon my poetry. The full Moon in Cancer threw me down and off. That exhaustion. I’m a Cancer rising, so Moon-ruled, and this happened in the house of my body and identity- but it had Mars and Venus involved, as well as Jupiter. That was January 3rd, and the last week I’ve been trying to recalibrate. I’ve decided to experiment a bit with my blog and what I offer here– based on my workloads, energy levels, and my inner perfectionist that tells me that I’m always failing. I have a Virgo Moon, and it can be brutal on my brain and heart.
When it comes to your natal chart, depending on your ascendant or rising sign, certain planets will really guide your experience. Your rising sign will also determine your house placements, so when it’s Capricorn season-- as it is now-- relationships, for me, are highlighted. This has been a crunchy experience as well, as it often is for me during this season, but not because I have much going on in that house in my natal chart, but because I have a lot of Cardinal placements in my birth chart. My point here is that the dance of the planets can affect different people in such highly divergent ways on a personal level; and then, of course– on the world stage we see things play out– like it did this last week– on a collective level.
I tend to focus on the personal level, because I don’t find it helpful– at all– to find out about world politics and an upcoming “doom and gloom” transit. It doesn’t connect me to my agency, or to my power. So I focus on our little lives, our little contributions. Collectively, if we all do that, we take back the power. And I am an anarchist after all.
Decentralized power= the age of Aquarius= this is our future.
Wringing our hands about the dark populist movement and how it is spreading will not save us. Organizing in community, building community support, knowledge bases, policies, principles (on a municipal and local level) is how we get through this. Look at the organizing that is starting to occur in Minnesota, after the gestapo murdered one of their own. THAT is the future my friends. And we best start now. There is more joy in community. We only have so much energy, be careful how you use yours.
That was my soapboxy intro to my upcoming presentation about the astrology of 2026 that I’ll be doing on Sunday January 25th at 3pm. I’m planning it for an hour, but I’m going to be available for Q&A afterwards for anyone who wants to ask questions. Depending on how many of you join– we might even be able to answer some questions about your personal charts.
I want you all to have hope and opportunity for this year, instead of fear and loathing. I want you to know how you can harness your personal power to steer this ship. Let me tell you, it’s not going to be steered by simply voting in an election. I hope you can all see that now. Party politics are old news, we are no longer in a binary of left and right. We haven’t been for quite sometime, but we are clinging onto hierarchy because it’s what we know.
OK back to what’s going on now/ last week:
January 1st Mercury enters Capricorn
January 2nd Chiron Direct Aries 22 degrees
January 3rd Full Moon in Cancer 13 degrees
January 6th Sun conjunct Venus 16 degrees Capricorn
January 7th Venus conjunct Mars 18 degrees Capricorn
January 9th Sun conjunct Mars 19 degrees Capricorn
January 17th, Mercury conjunct Mars 26 degrees Capricorn
January 17th Venus enters Aquarius
What these timestamps don’t illustrate is that we are in a heavy, heavy Capricornian influence right now, and we will be until January 17th-18th. This is the DEFINITION of hierarchical energy. We see this with the gestapo-gone-wild behaviour down south, and probably in our personal lives.
As I write this, retrograde Jupiter makes an exact opposition to the Venus, Sun, Mars conjunction in Capricorn. The Moon in Libra has just opposed Chiron. That’s a lot of cardinal energy, which is strategic, but initiatory. The combust nature of Mars and Venus in the Sun synthesize our consciousness with our desires, drives, preferences, and values. This happens in a practical and perhaps profitable way, and yet it may feel austere. Capricorn benefits involve: hard work, family, earth bound time, and mastery. They reward the committed, responsible, and hard working.
This might be a great time for some of us, feeling power and achievement, motivation and chutzpah. You might be making plans to build or make something. Capricorn represents hierarchy and institutions so you might, unfortunately, be dealing with a whole lot of that, authority, CEOs, systems of oppression, or just plain old work.
This cluster of planets are squaring Chiron in Aries, so again we have this theme of initiation. Squares are initiation, Cardinal signs are initiation (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), and Mars in Capricorn is exalted and lighting a fire under our proverbial asses because Mars is initiation. After a very long period of liminal energy: we have movement.
But are we ready?
These squares with Chiron highlight our wounding and our healing. Most decisions are made emotionally, no matter how rational we think we are, our facts are born from feelings. Whatever healing is happening within the self, we are learning how to move with it.
There’s a minor triangle formation that will carry us through the month and its focus is Saturn and Neptune: both currently in Pisces. This is the end of an era, and we are looking deeply at our delusions, dreams, addictions, spirituality, and overall relationship to the whole. We are looking at what is real, and what can manifest, over what is a pipe dream or poppycock. We are approaching a rebirth very soon, so enjoy this stable and grounded energy now, however boring and serious it feels. Soon we will all have hunger for stability.
On Saturday January 17th we will have a 5 planet stellium in Capricorn and Mercury and Mars will conjunct. This is a great day to lay down plans, schemes, and practical projects, having your desires and thoughts merge into powerful, strategic action. This still happens under the Sun’s beams so our consciousness will feel a certainty, or a plan forming that aims at the future. Then Venus moves into Aquarius to join Pluto, which begins the big change of energy. Venus in Aquarius likes technology, weirdness, revolution, disruption and change. She attracts it. Venus in Aquarius likes to blend into the crowd and disrupt the status quo. She is what will start a very Aquarius experience at the end of the month.
The end of the month gets pretty interesting from there, and I’ll be back to let you know about all that soon enough. For now–please consider supporting my work by attending or buying the recording of my 2026 forecast for all signs. Keep your hope, get some rest. We have a big year in front of us.
