June 6th 's New Moon conjunct Venus in Gemini: This is Definitely a Threesome

Writer: Astro AnarchistAstro Anarchist

3 people watch the full Moon.
This is a full Moon, but anyway you get the idea.

On June 6th at 5:37 am PST/ 8:37 am EST we will have a new Moon in Gemini. New Moons come at the very end of a cycle, and they are the infinite moment of the end and the beginning. For this reason new Moons are sacred moments of obliteration and genesis. Someone pointed out to me that I say this every new Moon, but: this is no ordinary new Moon. This one is conjunct Venus at the exact degree of the Sun and Moon’s tryst. Not only that, but Venus was consecrated and absorbed by the Sun in cazimi on June 4th. This Venus just hit her star point and was blessed on her journey.

This is definitely a threesome, but I can’t promise that it will be sexy, or fun, or even pleasant. Also: it might be any of those things in combination and a whole lot more. One thing that is almost certain is that this moment– and the inner work that bookends it– will have something to do with relationships.

Gemini is a sign of duality, “you and me,” twins, friends, communication, information gathering and sharing, confusion, inconstancy, and distraction. Gemini requires relationships by its very existence. And so does Venus. This Venus needs relationships to express, but which ones? I talked yesterday about the shallow pool versus the deep. Gemini plays in both– but Venus chooses which one. The Moon is balsamic now until the infinite moment between end and beginning, which is the process well represented by Gemini.

What’s funny about Gemini is it’s curiosity about the ending while being completely dedicated to the light. Although it is all about yin and yang and all kinds of binary duality, it only plays in the dark, it always faces the light. And that isn’t just superficiality, positive thinking, or avoidance, it’s the fact that Gemini ends on the longest day of the year (Northern Hemisphere) or begins on the shortest day of the year (Southern Hemisphere.)

Back to the new Moon conjunct Venus.

Planetary conjunctions mix energies, or fold them in, so to speak. New Moons are a synthesis between your ego/soul and body/cycles. New Moons are a threshold between balsamic (soft, restorative, emptying) energy and new Moon (birth, building, exciting ) energy. It is powerful to write intentions within the first 24 hours after the new Moon threshold has been crossed as a moment of pollination.

Keeping with our theme of duality, and relationships, Venus’s presence here suggests that this new Moon will be asking us what we really want. Who do we really want to play with? What is actually valuable to us? What is wealth; true wealth to us? Who are we spending our time with and does it resonate with what is true for us?

We may not come up with any answers to these questions, or perhaps the answers showed up already and we are just getting used to the truth of them. Either way, this is no ordinary new Moon.

The Sabian Symbol for 16 degrees Gemini is:

The head of  robust youth changes into that of a mature thinker.

The idea of this degree of Gemini has to do with the need to mature. It is itself a threshold between youthful energy and intellectual wisdom that considers the bigger picture, and the need to go in the direction of the higher mind. The idea is to not lose your youthful sensibilities, but to move towards something a bit more focused and concerned with consequences and outcomes. It asks us to be a bit more intentional about what we’re doing instead of just  messing around aimlessly..

We will all go through a process of this spiritual kick-in-the-pants, and depending if you have any planets or points between 14-18 degrees in Gemini or any mutable sign, you may feel other rebirths, endings, beginnings, and discoveries about yourself and what you want. If you have the chance to get some intentions down, I encourage you to reflect on this, because of how much power is backing you as you plant this seed.

For now, in the last degrees of the balsamic Moon, consider what you are letting go of, who you are letting go of, and what has already let go of you. The energy is thicker and heavier leading up to this celestial event, as we clear out space for what we really want.

New Moon blessings!
