Astrology for December 11th-20th: We've Got Some Crunchy Feelings

How’s your Sagittarius season treating you? I’m already burning out, but hopefully I can recover some lost ground with my power napping these days. I pushed pretty hard in Scorpio season and now I can’t seem to get enough sleep. Also, this has typically been a social time for me, but I’ve been hermitting this Hermit year. There are literal weeks that go by without me seeing actual people except at the grocery store. It’s true that when you go inside the shell, it’s hard to come out, especially during dark days.
I’m still trying to recover a sense of safety, even if safety is an illusion. I still struggle-- greatly-- with my social life, in general.
It’s been a bit of a spikey first kick in December, with the Mercury/Uranus opposition, Mars/ Saturn square, and Neptune stationing direct in Pisces. We’ve got some crunchy feelings, thwarted efforts, and lesson-y lessons in front of us. There's a sense of confusion, dreaminess, and altered states-- as Neptune gives us a last gasp at purification. We will be faced with healing and some existential questions over the next few months. The energy feels really has the emotional note of Neptune at the crisis degree, with Saturn close behind. I can feel the urgency is louder this year as people cling to outdated modes of understanding in this changing world. I too, cling to outdated realities, as find my way in the dark. On Thursday December 11th Mercury will make a trine to Neptune in the critical degree of 29; the seed of our visions, delusions, hallucinations, and spirituality. Mercury in the final degree of Scorpio coupled with Neptune in Pisces- will bestow some emotional and spiritual healing, potentially some facet of grief, and help move it out of our collective or personal systems. Mercury then re covers lost ground in Sagittarius where the turnaround is toward hope, optimism, and faith. Mercury is in its detriment in this fire sign that looks at the big Truth, while Mercury likes to focus on the immediate details. Mercury here can get overwhelmed, and over-stimulated, which is nothing new for a mid-December mood.
Over the weekend, from there, we have a mutable T square that forms while the Moon is in Virgo opposing Saturn and Neptune in Pisces. The apex of this T square is the Sun, Venus, and Mars in the late degrees of Sagittarius, and so we’ll feel the emotional and subconscious tensions of the world's changes, and our personal goals and ambitions. There is a touch of righteousness and spiritual expansion that go hand in hand in Sagittarius, and so this tension could manifest in overblown behaviour. Hopefully we all keep a degree of humility and consideration for others-- when things feel tense.
On Sunday December 14th, there’s some interesting energy with Sagittarius Sun trining Aries Chiron. That means we’ve got chances to heal or be healed, and that can mean our wound has been relocated or felt, or that we can (in turn) feel someone else’s wounding and help them in some concrete way. With Aries Chiron, often that means that just being authentic-- and real-- can be inspiring for others, if you are being the authentic and real HEALED side of yourself. On the same day we have a square between Sagittarius Mars and Pisces Neptune, and this energy has an urgency to change, a crisis of action versus confusion, and frustration between desire and delusion. Whatever we want and try to achieve, we may feel thwarted or misled, or emotionally and spiritually unable. There’s a lot to feel today.
Monday December 15th hits a little better with Mars moving into Capricorn, a sign that it’s exalted in. Mars is cunning, strategic, organized and in-control in Capricorn, the sign that can move mountains. Mars loves to be here, and heroic efforts are in all of our potential to really nail. We can all find ourselves able to pull off the impossible, and this transit is practical and will kick up some hierarchy.
On Tuesday December 16th we have Mercury recovering its shadow degree in Sagittarius, officially completing its retrograde terrain, and letting us move on with a learning, cognition, or conversational improvement. We are looking at our lives and our environs a little differently after the mayhem and delay of the retrograde, through two signs. I personally had a car repair that WASN’T covered under warranty, and a lot of mayhem with orders at my day job. I’ve had considerable annoying tech issues also while trying to create more content. I’m glad to see this Mercury retrograde end.
On Wednesday December 17th we have Sagittarius Sun squaring Saturn in Pisces which is another mutable square– frustrating us into change. Saturn offers an austere lesson, a spiritual truth, or an epic loss, that will rain on our parade, enthusiasm, our conscious and spiritual plans. Saturn in Pisces suggests potential shadow, grief, or deathwork, and Sagittarius Sun is more orientated to positive spirituality born of growth, expansion, and exciting advancement. These two offer an integration of light and dark, in such a way that we probably won’t be saying “thank you.” We have the power of Moon, Mercury, Venus and Sun-- all in Sagittarius at this point, giving out great faith and optimism in the metaphorical and literal darkness, depending on your hemisphere. We will all be contemplating what it’s all about.
On Thursday December 18th Sagittarius Venus will trine Aries Chiron, giving some inspiration to healing, connection, and shared values. Whatever identity wound prevails, there is a way to connect through it, and really dig into the spiritual possibilities of Sagittarius season.
If you build it, they will come.
You are coming to the end of an important cycle in the house that Sagittarius rules in your chart, and Jupiter makes an inconjunct angle to that same Venus to prove this point, with some nod to your maternal line and preparing for the dark moon.
On Friday December 19th we have the New Moon in Sagittarius at 28 degrees, making a square to Neptune and Saturn in Pisces and conjunct Venus. There’s some big energy here on this New Moon coming from outer planets, and pointing us to a new ambition, or belief, something has changed once we get over this threshold. This New Moon is significant and possibly not concrete. Don’t make huge decisions on this day no matter how guided it feels. Sit with whatever comes up for at least a few days.
On Saturday December 20th we have Sun’s last gasp in the centaur’s sign, where it squares Neptune in Pisces, while Venus squares Saturn in Pisces and Mercury becomes the apex of a T square with the North and South Node.
This is a check point of fate,
we will have some thinking to do around what our real ambitions are-- versus our real visions. We have emotional truths to build, but energetic faith to carry us. There’s a small warning in this astrology with this nodal check point. We can repeat the patterns of the past, or boldly move to the future. Neptune is what we dream, but also how we get intoxicated, confused, projected upon, glamoured, victimized. We get seduced by our own dream. Saturn is the rules, the reality, the manifestation, the work we must do. Saturn is boundaries– and the rain on your wedding day. There is (potentially) a choice on the 20th, as we leave the fire season for the mountain climb that is Capricorn season, and cross the threshold of solstice. But that's the day after.
We are not the same people we were a year ago, not by a long shot. I’m putting together some offerings soon, when I get time away from the grinding gears of capitalism.
