Astrology Transits for August 22nd-August 25th: Some Sort of Trigger May Occur

Hello dear friends, we have definitely gotten through the dog days of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere.
Of course-- I had to look that up, because this summer really felt like dog days, whatever that means. I found out it relates to the fixed star Sirius, who was known by the ancient Greeks as a dog (Canus Major constellation) because it rose with the Sun in the middle of summer. ` It was known to add to the heat of summer (this is all Northern Hemisphere centric, but I’d love to hear your experience and take on this if you are living in the Southern Hemisphere.) It turns out that transiting Jupiter just rode over fixed star Sirius recently, and it also turns out that Sirius sits on my natal ascendant. The dog is with me at all times.
I am one of those people who has a harder time in the oppressive heat, and dog days of summer. Jupiter makes everything bigger, and MOAR, and this past Mercury retrograde was one for the books for a lot of us. It was harder than usual. Mercury retrograde is supposed to be annoying, but it isn’t supposed to hurt so much. Unless it’s retrograding over your natal Saturn, as it did mine. There’s so much more to astrology in nuance and specificity, I wonder if AI will ever be able to nail it down- currently I would avoid this, Chat GPT gets it very wrong (no offence to our robot overlords.-- you'll master it soon enough)
But I digress.
Those of us with a lot of cardinal placements have been really tested this month. September has a whole lot of squares that will be difficult in different ways– and will be harder on the mutable signs. Astrology is a mixed bag, sometimes testing us to our wit's end; sometimes just annoying us; sometimes bestowing blessings that we cannot comprehend. If things were just fine or pretty good; I doubt you’d get into astrology in the first place. Astrology is sensed, and usually sensed to make sense of what doesn’t make sense.
Let’s take a look at what’s coming:

As I write this it’s Thursday, August 21st 2025, and there have been a few key developments since I last wrote about transits. What’s upcoming will bring more exciting, closed aspect astrology, including two kites, a couple minor triangles, a basket, a mystic rectangle, and a yod. This is some really interesting and rare astrology.
Let’s talk about the yod, or the Finger of God. This has a quality of propelling us further through painful experience, or a spiritual lesson. It may bring up a crisis, or something transformative. Yods have an apex planet–- in this case it’s the Sun–- which is quincunx two planets that sextile each other– in this case Aquarius Pluto and Saturn conjunct Neptune in Aries. Yods are known to bring forth fated events impulses, and we started the yod today as I write this (August 21st) with Sun in the last degree of Leo (the crisis degree) but tomorrow it will move to Virgo to become a little more exact. This yod will be activated until August 26th.
Yods are characterized by some degree of stress and a calling towards something, so pay attention to your own consciousness, drive, and what you are called to in these next few days. To have two outer planets as the sextile and Sun at the fulcrum is a big deal.
On Friday August 22nd we have some more sky magic as the Sun and Moon both enter the sign of Virgo together and form a New Moon. As Virgo season begins, a cycle ends and begins at the same time. Virgo energy is very different than Leo energy, as mutable earth it’s the sign that gets into the weeds, gets technical, it likes data, categories, specificity, science, and understanding the minutiae. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, and it can lose itself in details, be highly perfectionist, a bit critical (especially to itself). But Virgo is also one of the most humble signs of the zodiac who has a major mission to serve. While some of us love the dog days of summer, there are many of us who like the cyclical queue of Labor Day weekend; getting organized, classes of all kinds beginning again, and feeling like everything is getting back on track. If it’s not obvious, I am the latter, and I can’t wait until yoga classes pick up again.
The New Moon is applying a square to Uranus in Gemini, suggesting that while we are looking at a sacred ending and beginning of a cycle, there will be some disruption, breakthrough, change, or jolt that could propel it. Mercury-- the planet that rules this New Moon and Uranus in Gemini-- is still in Leo, and thankfully recovering it’s retrograde shadow. Whatever you endured during the mercury retrograde might come into play during this transit. Mercury rules our communication, our thinking, our immediate perception, transportation3and ideas. So there's some flavor of this to this New Moon/ Yod.
A big point I need to make about this New Moon is that it is hinting/ kicking off/ next month’s eclipse season which will take place on the Pisces/Virgo polarity. Remember that eclipse seasons move us forward, make us aware of things, and generally speed up the narrative our lives. The Sabian Symbol for the degree of this New Moon is:
In a portrait, the best of a person's traits and character are idealized.
The energy of this point is about idealization, been seen (or not,) projections, taking people at face value, or being seduced by looks, or visual cues. This is about what we choose to see, and this is going to become important as we move through the end of the month. Something from your subconscious will want to be seen here, and the overall effect may have you contending with a larger change in 2 weeks time. I will have more to say about eclipse season in another post (or potentially a video, if I can get it together.)
On Saturday August 23rd we have a square between Cancer Venus and Aries Chiron, and squares are most often quite frustrating. Cancer Venus wants to connect through nurturing, staying at home, and making connections that are emotionally sweet and safe. Aries Chiron is contending with spiritual battle and identity wounding, and this means we could be dealing with mother wounds, issues with safety/home/ healing or connection. Some sort of trigger may occur, or something that triggers a layer of healing that is needed after that New Moon. Know it for what it is.
On Sunday August 24th the Sun in Virgo makes the exact square to Uranus, and Uranus will have some fun with us during this whole period of time. We can expect surprises, new information, new developments, reports, rumours, viral memes, technology-based communication stuff. Uranus in Gemini might bring some ideas, innovations, or change. The delivery method is often a surprise too. Keep in mind that Uranus is also part of a minor triangle that involves Pluto Aquarius and apexes with Saturn and Neptune in Aries, and that’s going to be there for roughly a 2 years or so. These outer planets working together is very special, and they are going to focus us through these next few years with beneficial and precise energy. We all receive this blessing together, what are we going to do with it?
But back to this Sun/Uranus square, expect the unexpected, but this has innovation/discovery vibes. A breakthrough in consciousness? A vision become manifest? Or, in the words of Keanu Reeves as Ted in Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure:
Whoa!
If you’re like me, and you feel pinned down in a situation that you did not want or choose, and your normal resources of dealing with this are not available; you might find this energy moves you like a chess piece into place. Only it’s not necessarily what you envisioned or wanted, but it’s definitely a few squares away. You will be moved, so try to enjoy the ride (this is advice I’m writing specifically for me when I reconsult this text when I need to figure out why I’m flipping out.) This could be a huge benefit, disguised as; a problem, an ending, or a “no.”
On Monday August 25th, Venus enters Leo, making a trine to Saturn and Neptune in Aries. With Venus in Leo we get– full on– more drama, and more diva. There’s this need to be connected and seen, to be in the spotlight, and with the trine we also get a sense of identity; a vision brought manifest when we are seen, witnessed, when the light shines on us. Our values come into play here, as does our heart. There’s deep love in this Venus, and a deep desire to be loved. This same day– also in Leo– Mercury recovers its lost ground from it’s retrograde cycle, meaning we can finally move forward from where we all began on July 16th. There’s lots of heart work in Leo, I find, and while this is beneficial, it might have some emotional fire.
There is medicine here for all of us as we are moving on, and moving to an eclipse season. I truthfully have flashbacks from Venus in Leo– retrograde– 2 cycles back (2023) . I look forward to Venus blessing us all with warm, heart led connections and a little bling to go with it.
Something is about to turn around, fly away, activate. As we set into Virgo season we have a few more bangers for the end of August, and then a few more weeks until eclipse season!
New Moon blessings!
